Recovering from orthopedic surgery in Los Cabos

A practical guide for traveling patients: what to prepare, what to expect, and when to reach us.

Before you travel

Complete the pre-operative evaluation your surgeon requests and confirm you are cleared to fly after surgery (the exact timing is set by your physician based on the procedure). Choose a quiet, accessible place to recover: few or no steps, room to walk inside, and close to the clinic for follow-up visits. If you can, travel with a companion for the first weeks — it helps enormously.

The first days

Rest with the leg elevated, apply ice as directed, take medications exactly as prescribed, and care for the incision following the team's instructions. Walking a little several times a day, with the support indicated, is part of recovery — not a reason for fear. Physical therapy starts early and is your best ally: the clinic has dedicated therapists on-site, so there is no need to travel far.

Warning signs: contact the team immediately if…

Fever, redness or discharge from the wound, marked calf pain or swelling, shortness of breath, or pain that increases instead of improving despite medication. If any of these appear, message us on WhatsApp right away — an extra check is always better than a missed one.

Follow-up and continuity back home

Before you fly home, we provide a summary of your surgery and your rehabilitation plan for your home physician. We are glad to coordinate the handover of your care, and we remain available on WhatsApp for questions during recovery.

Small pleasures allowed

Once your surgeon clears it, Los Cabos offers a gentle recovery: short walks around the marina area, mild weather most of the year, and a food scene that adapts to recovery diets. Recovering well does not mean staying indoors — it means following the plan calmly.
